Support » Plugin: Backup & Migration - WPvivid Backup and Migration Plugin » Media path not updating during restore to a new domain

Maybe I am just missing a setting or something but one major issue I see with this tool is that it doesn’t do anything to update the path for media within posts/pages/etc. Yes, it updates the main website URL within wp_options but it does nothing to update the absolute path for images and other media that is saved within files.

So, if this tool was to be used to move a site back and forth between a staging server it just references media that points to whatever URL was in use when the page/post was made. So if a bunch of work was done on staging, you migrate the site over to live and take down the staging site all the media is still pointing to the staging site and requires you to either update each page/post manually or depend on another plugin to go in and update the saved absolute path with tables like wp_posts and wp_postmeta.

I can’t imagine why WP would still be using an absolute path for media in posts versus a relative path but I don’t see that changing any time soon… but when I use a tool specifically designed for migrating data and even claims you can use it to move your site back and forth between a staging server this seems like a pretty big issue to overlook.

    Hello @oldesalty

Our plugin does replace urls and paths during migration.

Our guess is that the option_value of the upload_path option in the wp_options table in your database is defined as an absolute path.

If that is the case, please go to the target site > in the database > find the upload_path field in wp_options > modify the value of upload_path to null.

Also, some page builders require resigning/regenerating their paths/shortcodes/files after migration, for example, Elementor and Oxygen, if you built pages with them, it is recommended to do so after migration.

    All the best,
