Support » Fixing WordPress » Media Library Upload

  • I’m not sure if this is a WordPress problem or a plugin problem, but the default media feature where you upload photos and graphics for WordPress, has stopped uploading my graphics. I searched the documentation and it seems that has been a problem related to some plugins, but none of the plugins mentioned are installed on my site. I’m not sure what information you need to help me troubleshoot this problem. I’ve cleared the cache on my site, have resized the graphic, rebooted my computer even in case it was an issue with my computer, just tried everything that I can think of, including disabling other plugins temporarily and nothing seems to work. I even contacted my hosting people to see if I was over the size limit for my site and it wasn’t that either. I need some direction to figure out what’s happening on my WordPress site. I am new to WordPress so I am a bit lost.

Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Hello @mariealline

Go to the root directory, it’s the directory where you can find your wp-config.php file. You should be able to find your .htaccess file.

Download a copy of it onto your computer to save as a backup.

Open it and added the following into a newline at the end of the file.

1- Add this code in the wp-config.php

    php_value upload_max_filesize 64M
    php_value post_max_size 64M
    php_value max_execution_time 300
    php_value max_input_time 300

2- Add this code .htaccess file.

    php_value upload_max_filesize 64M
    php_value post_max_size 64M
    php_value max_execution_time 300
    php_value max_input_time 300

    3. Add this code php.ini file

Open it and find the following values, one at a time (They are located at different lines within the file)

    upload_max_filesize
    post_max_size
    max_execution_time
    max_input_time

Preferably, edit them to the following values.

    upload_max_filesize 64M
    post_max_size 64M
    max_execution_time 300
    max_input_time 300

    Hope this will help.

    Thanks.
