  • Is it a problem to use the media library as storage for images I intend to use but am not currently?

Does a large media library slow down the site or is it only when the images are being served that their size becomes an issue?

  • Generally speaking, having a large (which is rather subjective) media library will not slow things down. If we start talking about a huge (again, subjective) media library, queries to the database may take a little longer – keeping the database optimized and caching can certainly help with this. The answer to “how big does it have to be to have an affect on queries” depends on a lot of variables, including server specifics, other load on the database, and things like that.
