• My media library has images that I have uploaded in the past but now it gives me this error

“banner5_new.png” has failed to upload due to an error
Unable to create directory wp-content/uploads/2013/09. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

Trying to upload a header image for my theme and get the same error inside the customize theme option. Using Portfolio-press theme.

    thanks,

  • Try changing the permissions on the wp-content directory to 766. If you still have problems, try 767, 775 or 777. Once your uploads are working, change the permissions on wp-content back to 755 again and check that everything still works OK.

right now the index.php file permission inside wp-content is 644

No one said anything about that file…

I tried all those numbers in the WP-CONTENT folder no avail.

No. Not “in” the wp-content folder. On the wp-content folder.

i meant ON. I right clicked on the folder icon in my FTP and got info. In the info dialog box I changed the permissions for that folder to all the different number you listed and tested uploading an image to the media library as well as the other channels to upload an image. I get an error.

Ask your hosts to check if you have a folder ownership issue.
