Media Library empty for one user only

I have a website with many users admins and editors until yesterday everyone was able to access the media library. Today one of the editors found the media library empty while everyone else could see the files and pictures . I did not modify anything regarding permissions. I deleted the user account and created it again and he could see the media files but I would like to know why this has happened so we could avoid it in the future.
