• I’m new to WordPress, so excuse my n00b-ness here. I’m a photographer and I’m trying to build a photography website with the Uncode template I just purchased.

I’m confused because I upload images to the media library and SOME appear with a thumbnail and others do not. The images that appear with a thumbnail in the media section I can use in my layout, no problem. The other images, that only have a blank square instead of a thumbnail, I seem to be able to “point” to them when I’m building a slider on pages of the site, but nothing appears in the layout.

I have checked that all images are saved as jpeg, 72dpi, saved for web.

I think what confuses me the most is that is works for some and it doesn’t for others, and I don’t know WHAT the secret is…

I am currently building the site locally with XAMPP – could this be it?

  • Depends on the limitations of XAMPP you configured. What you can try to do is click the thumbnails in your media library (any) and you will get a new page where you can see the location of the uploaded image. That usually unveils a pattern in which images can and couldn’t be saved (hence the blank thumbnail). Size limitation for example (KBs wise I mean) and/or file extensions.

URLs are exactly the same for both.

On the image that have a thumbnail, when I click, I see a full preview of the image with the “edit” button below. On images that did not successfully upload there is no preview, but there is the “edit” button. And once I click on the edit button I can see a smaller version of my photo with very basic options for rotating and such.

If I follow the URL of the images that I don’t see the thumbnail. I CAN see the image in my browser.
