    3.5 RC1

    ——————————————
    case 1)
    -> edit post or page
    -> click add media button
    -> multi file uploader opens
    -> upload file (or do nothing, doesn’t matter)
    -> close the upload thickbox
    -> I am back in the post or page I was writing , as expected.

    ——————————————

    case 2)
    -> edit post or page
    -> click add media button
    -> multi file uploader opens
    -> change to ‘browser uploader’
    -> current tab loses focus and new tab opens with old skool browser uploader

    -> upload files (or do nothing, doesn’t matter)
    -> close the browser uploader
    -> I am not back in the post or page I was writing,
    but I am now in the media menu part

    ——————————————

    (NB: on another note, while I’m at it, this forum lets you choose the WP version, but the dropdown box for version number went up to 3.4.2 , didn’t let me choose 3.5 RC1.)

    That’s more or less by design. The browser uploader is only a fallback without the full functionality, which the normal uploader offers.

    Thanks for your reply ocean90.

    Sure the browser uploader is a fallback solution, and less users will be affected.
    Not sure though how *that* can be a reason to not make it as logical/intuitive as possible.

    In 3.4 switching between the ‘multi file drag-n-drop uploader’ and the ‘browswer uploader’ would just switch people back and forth in the same thickbox, and when the thickbox was closed, the user would elegantly be dropped back in the post/page that the user had onscreen.

    Simply put, the UX difference is:
    – 3.4: edit -> browser uploader -> back to post edit 🙂
    – 3.5RC1: edit -> browser uploader -> huh ?? where am I? where did my post go? 🙁

    No brainer to me that this will confuse lots of people, even if this is a fallback solution.

    whats the status on this one?

    Check out RC2. We now only very rarely provide a link to the browser uploader. See https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/22604#comment:5.

    super!

    thanks!
