    If I upload an image to the media folder then delete it permanently it still can’t be replaced with a new image as the old keeps coming back if the new file has the same name as the old file.

    Any ideas on fixing this?

    Hi,

    This is most likely a browser cache of the old image you are seeing.

    After you upload your new image, try a hard refresh to clear the local cache and see if the image changes. (You may want to do that refresh on the media page where you can see the image in question)

    I did a couple tests and this is not new. Just to explain…

    Tested on 4.5-RC2-37173 with the following steps (please let me know what speific steps you used if different):

    Test #1 – Media Library

    1. Go to Media Library.
    2. Upload m08aGa1nAM.png (a file I had handy)
    3. Verify file is correct.
    4. Delete Permanently
    5. Rename nope.png to m08aGa1nAM.png (this is a photo of an octopus)
    6. Upload new m08aGa1nAM.png

    Everything is fine

    Test #2 – Post Page

    1. Make a new post
    2. Add m08aGa1nAM.png to post as medium image
    3. Click to REPLACE image
    4. Click ‘Edit Original’
    5. DELETE from this window
    6. Upload new m08aGa1nAM.png

    At this point, yes, I see the OLD image in the edit page. As soon as I hit ‘save draft’ however, it shows the correct image.

    Repeated tests on WP 4.4.2

    Works as expected
