# media duplication bug

 * since December (can’t remember what version of WP it was at the time) i’ve been
   having this bug: the last pictures I added to the media library get duplicated
   multiple times in a seemingly random way.
 * apparently, this happens while the site is simply being accessed, not when i’m
   in backoffice mode.
 * anyone experienced the same ?

 * By duplicated, do you mean that although each image appears once in the media
   library but when you check the wp-uploads folder using FTP, you see multiple 
   versions of each image at different sizes? If so, that’s not a bug it’s meant
   to do that.
 * Or do you mean that when you go to Dashboard > Media > Library you actually see
   multiple images, with a number appended to the original file name?

 * thanks for your interest, Jason.
 * by duplicating i mean exactly your second hypothesis: multiple images with, when
   i look at the file, a series of “1-1-1-1-1” appended to the name.
 * it seems that the actual image files are not concerned – it’s just started to
   do that sometime between November 14 December 18, and keeps doing it despite 
   my repeated deletions… yesterday i suppressed all irrelevant pictures and now
   i’m up to 63 self generated clones covering 4 original pictures. pictures previous
   to December are not subject to this proliferation.

 * Never known this happen before.
 * First rule out user error – seems unlikely you’d have accidentally dragged some
   of these images to upload multiple times and they wouldn’t be numbered like that.
 * Are you using any plugins related to uploaded images? Image management? Or which
   use Featured Images?

 * yep – user error ruled out.
 * Featured Images ? well, my theme, Simplicimente, uses featured images for articles.
   and i haven’t updated it for a while since even with child inheritance i had 
   to modify some of the original files to get the results i wanted.
 * maybe it finds itself out of step with the recent WP updates?

 * WordPress updates are rarely the cause of problems like this.
 * The Featured Images feature itself wouldn’t cause this problem, I was just fishing
   to find out if you had any image related plugins.
 * It’s not a copy and paste on the server, that wouldn’t add the 1s in that way.
 * Sorry, stuck. Anyone else here got a suggestion?

 * thanks for having looked into it.
 * i’ve narrowed it down to this: each time i update the content of a page or article,
   all the included pictures (not the videos) are duplicated.
 * maybe a bug in the Semplicemente theme?

 * Easily tested, temporarily switch to a different theme and update a page to see
   if it still happens.
 * If problem persists, deactivate plugins and try again.
