Media doesn't upload all of a sudden

  • Per last Tuesday, I can’t upload any new media through WordPress. When I try to add a picture to my post I get the following message:

Warning: touch() [function.touch]: Unable to create file
    /home/vg001web04/23/67/2936723/web/wp-content/picture.tmp
    because Disk quota exceeded in
    /home/vg001web04/23/67/2936723/web/wp-admin/includes/file.php on line
    177

I’ve contacted the hosting provider who told me that my disk space is exceeded, which seems to be a logical conclusion when you look at that message but is not actually the case. I’ve deleted over 80mb of media and an image of only a couple kb still won’t upload. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
