Saw this mentioned in a post on LinkedIn and had to take a look. Great plugin, but I believe that the custom post type might be a little too public.

When I installed it on my blog to test it out, I created a ‘design’ and then viewed it. I then checked out my xml sitemap and there it was, as well. I believe this could possibly lead to a big spamming problem if people don’t realize to disable the post type in their site maps.

A solution may be making the post type not public and then generating a unique link for each ‘design’.

Thanks for the feedback, Jesse – yes, the use of a custom post type has some tradeoffs, but ultimately we’ve found it to be the safest route, least likely to interfere with other plugins and configurations. Password protection and unique/randomized links are on the list for future versions. 🙂

You mention this, but for others reading, chances are your XML Sitemap plugin is including all custom post types by default, so you can disable designs from being auto-listed.

Here’s the setting in YOAST SEO: XML Sitemap Settings Screenshot

Thanks again – appreciate the comment. I’ll mark resolved if I don’t hear back in a few days.

Good idea with the password protection thing.

What you said about the XML sitemap plugin automatically including all custom post types, this is true. I believe Yoast only does it for public post types, which is why I suggested making the post type not public.

In any case, it might be good to put a suggestion to update settings for SEO or sitemap plugins in the installation instructions.

Thanks for the feedback, Jesse – we just released v1.1 with password protection, so I’m going to mark resolved.
