MaxMind IP Geo database does not exist

I’m seeing this message at the top of my dashboard, and I can’t seem to get the plugin to work.

The MaxMind GeoIP database does not exist. Please download this file manually or if you wish to use the GeoIP API get an API key from: http://geoip.webence.nl/
Please download the database from: http://geolite.maxmind.com/download/geoip/database/GeoLiteCountry/GeoIP.dat.gz unzip the file and afterwards upload it to the following location: /home1/charmyst/public_html/wp-content/uploads/GeoIP.dat
If you also use IPv6 please also download the database from: http://geolite.maxmind.com/download/geoip/database/GeoIPv6.dat.gz unzip the file and afterwards upload it to the following location: /home1/charmyst/public_html/wp-content/uploads/GeoIPv6.dat

Hi,

You need to download these two files to your own computer:

http://geolite.maxmind.com/download/geoip/database/GeoLiteCountry/GeoIP.dat.gz
http://geolite.maxmind.com/download/geoip/database/GeoIPv6.dat.gz

And upload these files to your wordpress upload folder.

The full path is /home1/charmyst/public_html/wp-content/uploads/ but you may only see a public_html directory for instance.

You can upload these files to this location via FTP or perhaps your hosting company also has a file manager where you can upload these files. Because the details are very hosting company specific you may want to take a look at the documentation your hosting provider has on the topic of uploading files via FTP or a file manager.

Hello, I have the same problem, I have FTPed both the dat files to the proper directory but the error message did not disapear. I would need to fix it to get rid of some attacks from Ukraine…

I am using the same plugin on two sites, one works perfectly (and caught some 1.000 attacks already!!), the other one still reports the error. I have triple checked whether I did the same on both sites and cannot find any reason why it would not work.
