Maximum execution exceeded in class-wp-http-curl.php on line 240

    I am new to WordPress and am attempting to follow the instructions at
    http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-install-wordpress-on-a-usb-stick-using-xampp/
    so that after I have learnt the basics myself I can take the USB stick to another site to train someone else in a small business.

    As there is such an enormous number of themes and I am a technical person not a designer I thought for training it would be best to use the supplied theme. As I could not find a way to get a horizontal top menu on the 2015 theme I am trying to use 4.4 with the 2016 theme.

    However at http://localhost/mysite/wp-admin/install.php?step=2

    I get

    Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in E:\xampp\htdocs\anesetest\wp-includes\class-wp-http-curl.php on line 240

    My USB stick is marked USB3 and is plugged into a blue port on a modern desktop.

    As 4.4 is a beta should I report this as a bug?

    It means your the amount of time in your case 30 seconds, which is the maximum time your script is allowed to take has been exhausted. Change the maximum time on your php.ini file. If your using. XAMPP should have info for you on how to change php.ini values.

    I did not actually use your fix as it worked fine when I tried it on RC1 just now, but if the problem recurs I will do as you say.
