Support » Plugin: Max Mega Menu » Max Mega Menu – define width of 1 level menu

  • Resolved memora1898

I’m using a local server, so cant link to the page I’m working on. I selected the free GeneratePress theme, because I need a left-sided navigation. I know it is old-fashioned, but its simply what I need. Unfortunately I was not able to customize the menu with the free GP-theme the way I wanted. Someone advised me to use the Max Mega Menu plugin.

After the installation of the free version of the MMM plugin, the menu elements like home, contact and so on, were still in the left sidebar, but they were arranged horizontal and not vertical like before. So instead of having each first-level-menu-element on a separate line, all elements were on one line.

I’ve tried what feels like a hundred times, to change that. What finally moved each menu-element to an own line was changing the space between elements to 100%.

But now I have another problem, and I simply don’t know how to resolve that. I want to have a different background color for each level of the menu (different shades of blue). So changing the color: check. BUT: unfortunately the background does not cover a certain width. If I go to flyout-menus, I can define the width of the submenus, which is 250px preset. But the background-width of the first-level-menu-elements varies. Its always as wide as the menu-text: like 4 letters wide for home, 7 letters wide for contact and so on. How can I define the background-with of the first-level-menu-elements (for example 250px or the complete width of the sidebar)?

By the way: Normally I am not using a computer in my daily life. From time to time I write a letter in Word or I send an email every now and then. So the realization of this website for me is as easy as rocket science. Oh, and I’m not a native English speaker. Hope someone can help.

    Hi memora1898,

The free version of Max Mega Menu only lets you create horizontal menus, which is why you’ve had trouble “stacking” the items on top of each other. A vertical menu option is available in Pro:

You should then find the background colours expand to the full width of the item.

Given your level of experience, it may be a good idea to get a freelancer to help you with this if you need further assistance.

    Hi Tom,

I’m not able to spend money on this project (I mean: not a single dollar). That’s why I use a local host (WAMP Server), which of course is free, the free version of GeneratePress, the free version of Elementor and the free version of the Max Mega Menu. And therefore – unfortunately – I can’t afford to hire a freelancer to help me either.

But thanks for your information. Now it is clear, that it wasn’t my fault, that I couldn’t expand the background color to the full width of the item, but that it simply isn’t possible to realize that with the free version. That safes me time, so I don’t continue looking for a solution.

Off-topic: I can’t believe that there are hundreds and thousands of highly customizable and free themes/plugins available, that offer horizontal menus, but truly none, that gives me the possibility to use a simple vertical navigation.
