Max Excerpt Length Not Updating

    Hi,
    The max excerpt length is not updating for posts with ” Ignore post content as excerpt source?” Checked. Only posts that use the content as excerpts are being affected by the max excerpt parameter. Any help would be great. Thanks

    I agree that this is confusing. But that is the intented behaviour. The reason is the ability of the excerpt fields to store HTML code. A truncation based on the number of characters would cut the code somewhere within a tag or would omit the closing tag, so the HTML code would become invalid and would lead to severe layout errors of the webpage. That is why the content of excerpt fields are taken “as is” and unchanged.

    I see. Since I don’t use any HTML in my excerpts, do you know of any workarounds that would allow me to limit this?

    If you can write PHP you could add a filter for the hook ‘rpwwt_the_excerpt’ to shorten the output of the post excerpt fields in the post list.
