Matching Postcodes with Area name drop-down list

Hello everyone,

My site if for hyperlocal delivery.

In WC settings I created delivery zones with local postcodes (dozens within one city) with different delivery fees for each city area. My issue is that a huge number of users are asking to choose neighborhood name instead of postcode because they don’t know/remember their postcode!

With pixel stats I can see a lot of people dropping out after reaching chekout page and I’m worried it’s related to the postcode difficulty.

Is there a way to create a drop-down list, where people choose from area names I would create in back end and link to zip codes? I found no plugin.

Your help would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi @manalb

It sounds like using an autocomplete checkout plugin may be something that would work for your site to get the functionality that you are looking for. Here are a few options that I found:

https://elextensions.com/plugin/address-validation-google-address-auto-complete-plugin-for-woocommerce/

https://wordpress.org/plugins/checkout-address-autofill-for-woocommerce/

https://wordpress.org/plugins/woo-autocomplete-checkout-address/

Hope this helps!

Hi Amanda,

Thanks a lot for your response. Unfortunately I have linked our delivery fees to user’s area postcode.

I need the user to choose an area name, and that area name to correspond to my already set postcodes/fees. Which is why I was thinking of a simple drop-down list (that I don’t know how to add to checkout).

Address autocomplete sounds great to help delivery persons, but I’ll still need something else for calculating shipping fees 🙁

Thank you!

I just checked something again, apparently these plugins also auto fill post codes!

I missed that the first time hah, I’m gonna try one then.

Thank you a lot!!

Hi again,

Sorry lots of replies 😀

I tested it with one of the plugins. It works fine until I check the actual postcodes suggested by Google.. They’re wrong half the time. Google seems to know African zipcodes very poorly.

I deactivated it because with wrong postcodes we’d charge the wrong delivery fees.

How can I simply make a drop-down list to replace the postcode field, let users choose an area name and that’s it (the site links it to a zipcode in backend).

Thanks a lot again.

Hi there,

To remove or add a new field, you could use Checkout Field Editor: https://woocommerce.com/products/woocommerce-checkout-field-editor/

However, you’ll need customization to link the area to a zipcode in the backend.
