 * Started a new site, and wanted to see how and why the uploads get so huge. I
uploaded one imege. In the upload folder, there are now seventeen versions in
   varying sizes – that’s SEVENTEEN.
 * One image that was originally 541 kb, has now ballooned to seventeen images with
an accumulated size of 5.9 mb.
 * This is insanity, and this must be why my little websites with some images actually
   become folders of like 250mb.
 * I know WordPress does this for a reason, but this is out of control. And in Settings
   > Media it only indicates three sizes – thumbnail, medium, large.
 * How can I make this stop please?
    Thank you.

 * WordPress core creates just 3 other files associated with the image media uploads.
   Large, Medium, Small.
 * Since that is a true, either your theme or a plugin is doing the rest, or most
likely the theme and multiple plugins as you note 17.
