 * Is there a plug-in whereby I can select all the instances of “John Smith”, for
   example, and then apply a link via code so that any “John Smith” reference in
   the entire website is hyperlinked to mywebsite.com/john-smith-page/, for example.

 * do the search and replace on the wp_posts table.
 * **backup your database first** in case you make a mistake. Do a “dry run” first,
   as well.
