I’m about to do the same thing. I have some idea but don’t know if it will work and right now I don’t use ajax. I think You can just check if a condition is true and load a map you want by sending a different query. I’m using views and types from http://wp-types.com in my code and don’t use a dropdowns but checkboxes instead so I think Your code is more simple because You can only chose one option.

Hi c001os, did You solve Ypur problem? I did’t have until now, but started to serach for a solution again and can recommend those two links: http://www.position-absolute.com/articles/create-an-interactive-google-map-widget-with-a-list-filter-and-a-map-helper-class/

I don’t know how You will get lant and long in your code; I could use: _pronamic_google_maps_latitude and _pronamic_google_maps_longitude to build my own mashups but still using data from http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/pronamic-google-maps/ plugin.
