Support » Fixing WordPress » Mapping a domain with special characters

  • Hi,
I own the domain helenabrinkjørgensen.dk, which I would like to map to my WordPress-page (helenabrinkjorgensen.com).
However, when I try, I get the following message: “Sorry, helenabrinkjørgensen.dk does not appear to be a valid domain name.” I suspect that it is because it has the Danish letter ‘Ø’ in it, but is there a way around this?

    Thanks in advance!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Does the registrar offer forwarding? That might be one way.

If you’re actually trying to map the domain to a multisite then or you wish to use that domain as your sites address then look into converting the domain to ‘punycode’.

Here’s an online converter you might use…

    https://www.punycoder.com/

Keep in mind the browser bar may or may not convert the domain depending on what language it is operating in.

My understanding is WordPress doesn’t fully support IDNs (domains outside of the Latin Ascii characters).

Thanks! I don’t think, they offer forwarding. And when I try to use punycode WordPress says “Domain cannot be mapped to a WordPress.com blog because of blacklisted term.”
