Support » Fixing WordPress » Many different errors, tied to the same problem?

  • Hello,

Most everything is working great, but for some reason I’m getting errors or hangups doing the following:

    • Add menu items = “Looks like something’s gone wrong. Wait a couple seconds, and then try again.”
    • Delete Plugins = “Deletion failed: Access denied.”
    • Adding Theme = “An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums.”
    • Search for Plugins = Spinning loading circle
    • Load Media into post from Library = Spinning loading circle

I think they are probably all related. I’ve done all the following:

    • Updated PHP to 7.3.2
    • Deactivated all plugins
    • Updated Permissions
    • Updated Permalinks
    • Uploaded clean functions.php
    • Recreated .htaccess

Site Health status lists 0 critical errors.

Thinking it might be a problem with my hosting,, but wanted to see if there was anything else I should try to solve this.

    Thank you for any assistance.

    – This typically means WordPress trying to connect to the update server in the background, but couldn’t. This could be due to a simple internet connection issue, or may be the server is offline. This connectivity issue, which usually resolves itself after a while.
    – If not, try contacting your internet/hosting provider.
    – Also, review this tutorial:

Why did you take the actions you listed? What permissions did you update? Why did you replace your theme’s functions.php? Why did you recreate htaccess? I doubt that you have a hosting problem. Rather your problems are self-inflicted. Do you have a backup of your site that you can restore? Also, I would turn on debugging in wp-config.php and then view the error logs.

Searching for fixes to those issues had those solutions. debug.log didn’t have anything that stood out to me, but I don’t know what to look for. A lot of lines referring to mixed content filter: “Mixed content fixer was successfully detected on the front end.” & “Mixed content fixer marker not found in the websource.”

Also a couple lines with: “PHP Notice: Undefined index:” that refers to a plugin’s .php file

I’m (obviously) no pro, so any other tips are welcome. Will likely just restore. Thanks anyway.
