• I am manually migrating a Drupal 6 site to WordPress by copying and pasting the post content between the sites, but I am stuck with what to do about post comments, which I’d also like to migrate.

Has anyone found a cut-and-paste way to migrate post comments? Or is there some other method I could be using?

    Tony

Thanks for your suggestion Tara, but in looking at those tools they all seem to be for scripted migrations. I am doing a non-scripted migration, one post at a time. So I just need a way to copy the comments from each Drupal post to the WordPress post as I migrate it. Even an SQL script for adding a single comment to a post may be OK, but something I can add to the Edit Post form would be better.

I have to eat my words Tara! The resource http://blondish.net/how-to-convert-drupal-to-wordpress/ on that page just saved me hundreds of hours of manual migration as well as solving my “comments” issue! All my posts are now migrated to WordPress with their associated users and comments.

The only issue I have now is what to do with the Advanced Forum threads from Drupal 6. At the moment they’re just not visible because they have a post type of “forum” but I could turn them into “posts” or I could possibly create a new custom post type of “forum” and make them look different. Not sure what the best thing is to do with them. There doesn’t seem to be any easy path to BuddyPress.

Here’s a post on the BuddyPress forums I ran across:
    https://buddypress.org/support/topic/migrating-from-drupal/

And a service that might do it:

Hello, what about your URL ? Do you have the same links on your new wordpress websites as you had on your drupal ? This is the most important to care about.

No, I am using a plugin called redirection to remap the old Drupal URLs, many of which were very messy, to new WordPress URLs in a clean category structure.

Don’t you think that it is anyway better to keep the same URLs as former website ?
