Plugin works great but I have to manually run the script within WordPress, the setting “Check for mail every:” is set to “twice per hour” but it never actually updates. Troubleshooting steps?

PS Sorry if this has been answered before but there doesn’t seem to be an easy way to search this forum.

Ahhh you know what, I bet this is because we have a password-protected (Google Apps) access to our WordPress site, so it works with an authenticated user but not as as the Cron job. Any ideas on how to run Cron as a user?

Per your instructions, Cron is ON, and Cron works with an authenticated user as well as the Postie script.

I think some of the external cron services let you supply a username and password. Or you can do it yourself if you have shell access with something like wget http://user:password@site.com/blog/wp-cron.php

Another option is to modify the .htaccess file if that is what Google Apps uses, or maybe they have another way to specify URLs that are available without authentication.

OK Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. We were using the plugin “Force Login” and there are instructions for adding exceptions so the Postie script could access /wp-cron.php – seems to be working now!
