First – DON’t click the page link – this site has been hacked. Attempt to access url will cause a redirect to hackers choice.
To the issue. Although I have cleaned the site (fresh install) and trawled the database, I cannot find the source of the redirect.
I have removed wordfence manually deleted via cpanel and wish to know if the tables in the database beginning with _wf can be safely removed as the plugin has gone.

You might ask why I removed wordfence – a bit of history – hackers got into wp-admin and placed code inside wordfence on one of my sites, so I am trying to eliminate all possibilities. I see database codes I do not understand, in the phpmyadmin _wf tables

Once this is sorted, wordfence goes back on.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Use this to remove the database tables: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordfence-assistant/

I cannot find the source of the redirect.

Have you tried deleting all themes and plugins, and then replacing them with clean versions? Also, check the .htaccess file.

Thanks @Barnez! I would have checked the htaccess file first because it usually is there. Unless you have that search2replace plugin installed. That’s almost guaranteed it’s somewhere in the database.

If you have to remove all the database tables and data, next time just make sure and check the box under “other options” on the wordfence options page on your web site. The option is called “Delete Wordfence tables and data on deactivation” This will remove all of wordfence from the site. Make sure that you remove extended protection on the firewall first. There is a button to do this at the bottom of the Firewall page. If the button isn’t there, you aren’t running in extended protection mode and you can do ahead and deactivate the plugin and delete it.
