Manual order shipping tax rate not rounding correctly.

    Hi there,
    I’ve noticed that the tax rate for shipping when creating a manual order doesn’t round up correctly.

    For example I have a shipping amount of $12 and a tax rate of 15%.
    The shipping price is therefore $10.43, with the tax $1.5645… this should round up to $1.57, but instead calculates to $1.56.

    This issue is specific to shipping only, the products in the same order can be entered with upto 6 decimals and they are rounded correctly.

    Is there a fix available for this, or am I doing something wrong?

    I understand that the tax rate for shipping when creating a manual order doesn’t round up correctly.

    To better picture what you are referring to here, can you please share with us a clear screenshot of what you see on your end so that we could address you more effectively?

    Additionally, please share with us the screenshot of the following settings as well:

    • General Settings (WooCommerce > Settings > General)
    • Tax Settings (WooCommerce > Settings > Tax)
    • Tax Classes (Standard Rate, etc)

    I’d like to understand your site properly, please share your System Status Report that you can find via WooCommerce > Status. Select Get system report and then Copy for support. Once you’ve done that, you can paste it into your reply here.

    Thank you for getting back to me 🙂

    I’ve been doing somre research and it seems it may already be a known issue, I found this which I think is likely the same problem:
    https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/issues/27626

    So shipping option prices set up with more than 2 decimals points are automatically rounded to 2 decimal points in the order backend, this automatic rounding means the tax applied isn’t correct in some cases… $12 shipping with 15% tax being an example of where it fails.

    Do you know if this is likely to be fixed in an update soon?
    It seems specific to shipping as product price and tax have 6 decimal points.

    It’s not a huge problem as I can manually alter the price and tax when necessary… it’s just a frustrating bug, that I keep forgetting to double check 😀

    Hello,

    In general, please note that $1.5645 represents $1.56, considering the last 2 decimals are less than 50 (which are 45) do not imply an increase when rounding is done.

    On the other hand, values greater than $1.5650 should be rounded up to the next value, in this case to $1.57.

    I was using my calculator, the tax should be $1.5652 assuming the site is using tax-inclusive prices.

    May I ask, what is the number of decimals on your site? You can check it under WooCommerce > settings > general. (I am assuming it is 6). Are the prices tax inclusive, correct?

    For better assistance, please share a copy of your site’s System Status Report. You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”. That information will help to check much better.

    I am indeed using tax-inclusive prices, I think the issue isn’t so much the tax calculation, but rather that in the admin area the shipping price is shortened to 2 decimals before the tax is calculated.
    So as you correctly point out, the tax amount should be $1.565217 but only because the price amount should be $10.434782, rather then the $10.43 it’s automatically shortened to.

    My understanding is that you round up from the last decimal, not the last 2 decimals. So the 5 at the end rounds the 4 up to a 5 which in turn rounds up the 6 to a 7.
    Meaning $1.5645 should represent $1.57.

    My decimals are set to 2 as this setting sets how the front end displays prices.
    As you can see in the following screenshoots, the product prices are still calculated to 6 decimals with this setting set to 2.
    I have also tried setting to 6 decimals for testing, but the shipping price still automatically shortens to 2 decimals before calculating tax.

    May I have a screenshot of your settings under WooCommerce > settings > tax? We’d like to see the Tax options, Standard Rates, Reduced Rates, and Zero rates, that will help to take a better look.

    Thanks for sharing the screenshots above.

    Looking closely to the Github thread you’ve share above, you are correct that your issue is related to this bug.

    Even though the decimal places under the General Settings is set to 6 for example, the amount of shipping is still rounded down to 2 decimal places.

    As of the time-being, this is still an open bug and no workarounds or resolutions are added to the thread, hence, I would suggest subscribing to the thread to keep posted for updates.
