I'm moving a web site to a new server. All is working well, except for WordPress. I get an HTTP 500 error.

Can some one give me pointers as to how to diagnose this?

    This is what I did:

    a. backed up the wordpress database and restored it to the new server using mysql command line tool.

    b. Created the user account and gave all rights to the user to access the wordpress database. Confirmed access to database by logging in with the user credentials and writing a few select statements. All appears to be OK.

    c. FTPed the blog folder to the new server.

    d. updated wp-config.php (which is in the root folder of the blog) with the new server details including the new user credentials.

    e. phpinfo() returns information as expected

    What have I missed?

You can turn on debugging mode to get an idea what is causing the error.

Check your .htaccess file on your server.

For the root level, you should see something like this in the file in the top five lines:

    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /

Be sure that the RewriteBase / is correct and not point to a sub-folder.

Let us know if that fixes it. :-)
