• I am a total beginner with wordpress, php and mysql.

I followed the instructions for a manual install on the wordpress and godaddy websites and have created the following:

    1. mysql database with an existing database name, username, hostname
    2. I then ftp’d the wordpress folder with the edited wp-config from the sample over to my domain
    3. i ran install.php and successfully obtained the “admin” username and gibberish password
    4. i am able to arrive at the “General Settings” page
    5. here’s the problem: whenever i click on any other link on the General Settings page, I get the following error on a new page:

“The page you tried to access does not exist on this server. This page may not exist due to the following reasons:

    1. You are the owner of this web site and you have not uploaded (or incorrectly uploaded) your web site. For information on uploading your web site using FTP client software or web design software, click here for FTP Upload Information.
    2. The URL that you have entered in your browser is incorrect. Please re-enter the URL and try again.
    3. The Link that you clicked on incorrectly points to this page. Please contact the owner of this web site to inform them of this situation.”

Can anyone offer any assistance, please?

  • Hi

You can now do a one-click WordPress install on GoDaddy
    See this: http://help.godaddy.com/article/834

I suggest you save yourself a lot of time – delete what you have already done, and do the one-click install.

i’m using a free hosting account and when i try to do the one click install, i get the message that i have to upgrade to more storage to do the one click install…

The steps that you followed sound correct.

I just found a forum answer from MichaelH, one of this forum’s moderator, saying in his experience WP doesn’t run correctly on free WGD hosting.

I am not familiar with what resources GoDaddy supplies with free hosting accounts, whether they are sufficient to run WordPress. If you get no other responses from anyone here, you might contact GoDaddy support, tell them the errors you are receiving, and see what they say.

that is, “in his experience WP doesn’t run correctly on free GoDaddy hosting.”

thanks for your help! it doesn’t seem right that godaddy won’t let wordpress run correctly when you have hosting (free or not). i’ll give them a call and see what they say. will update here for future users who might have similar problems. have always been a fan of godaddy so i’m hoping this isn’t a “lure” for wordpress fans to buy hosting!

WordPress definitely runs correctly on our paid hosting plans. The free ad-supported hosting may have difficulty interacting with certain applications, however. We recently discontinued Hosting Connection installs on free ad-supported hosting, therefore, you’ll need to upgrade to an economy plan or higher in order to use this install option. Let me know if I can help you out.
