Support » Fixing WordPress » Manual import from archived WordPress Blog?

  • I had a wordpress blog hacked, so I yanked it offline and saved all the files locally.

I was running an crusty old (but not too old) version of WP (which is why I think it was vulnerable).
So I installed a fresh version of WP and want to import the old blog archives to the newly installed version.
Apparently I need to have a WXR file, but I can’t (or don’t know how to) get one since my old blog is now offline.

    How can I:
    A) import the files manually, or
    B) I don’t know what B would be, but I’d really like to get my old posts back up.

What version were you running previously?

    I was running 3.2.1

Youll need a database backup or a WXR file. The posts and pages are not stored in your WordPress files.

What would be the best way for me to that if I have a backup copy of the SQL DB?

Can you import the SQL DB using the same mechanism by which you backed it up on the first place?

The Back-up DB is still in place, I just renamed it.

The thing is, the new WP install doesn’t seem to be using a SQL DB, or at least I can’t find it to replace with the old one.

.. but I’m guessing it’s not as simple as just replacing the new SQL_DB with the old one.

WordPress definitely needs an SQL DB to run. Its name is in the wp-config.php file.
