Support » Plugin: Online Backup for WordPress » Manual backup not working; Login to Online Backup from plugin gets 404

  • I recently downloaded Online Backup and have not been successful in getting it to work, via manual or automatic backup.

I set up a username and password, with which I can successfully login at your website, but when I use them to login from the “Online Backup Settings” tab in the plugin, I get to a 404/page does not exist. The address of the 404 page is http://[my domain]/wp-admin/tools.php?page=wponlinebackup%2Fwponlinebackup.php&section=online&messages=true
I have tried this multiple times on two different days, with the same result.

I’ve also tried to do a manual backup to email, two times on separate days. Both times, it has gotten to 71%, then stayed there, with the message, “A timeout occurred during backup”… “trying again…”.

Here are some details from the support tab:
Online Backup for WordPress Plugin Version 2.2.9
    PHP Version: 5.3.17
    MySQL Server Version: 5.5.27-cll
    MySQL Client Version: 1.0
    Mem: 168M; Post: 128M; Upload: 32M; Timeout: 60
    End of Information

We’ve got a diagnostics version you can try which will generate a log.
    You can download it here:

You’ll need to Deactivate and Delete the plugin you’ve already got installed (please note it will lose your settings, sorry). Then you go to Plugins, then click Add New at the top, click the Upload option and then upload the ZIP file above.

Reproduce the problem and it should create a file at /wp-content/plugins/wponlinebackup-423-tracing/trace.log
You can compress and email this file to support “at” and we can investigate what’s happening (refer to this topic in the email body if possible!)

Alternatively you could email the URL of your blog and we can try to view the trace.log in our web browser.

    We received the log file.

The problem appears to be the backup is 49MB in size and PHP is running out of memory when it’s trying to send it as an email. Even if it sends it might get rejected too. We’ll see if we can improve memory usage but I’m thinking we can’t any more than we have.

Best thing to do will be to exclude some items from the backup in General Settings using the filesystem excludes option. If you reduce the backup to less than 30MB it should have enough memory and less chance of email provider rejecting it due to attachment size limits.
