Just to give people a heads up that I've just released Manji2. This is a two column version of Manji.
Go here: http://www.brokenkode.com/manji
Here's the preview:
Still hate the header :/
Very nice. I can't wait for WP v1.5. And, I love the header. And, XeroCool, you can customize the header.
I mean the logo...Doesnt match right.
Is this for WP 1.2.2 also
And, I love the logo. And, XeroCool, you can customize the logo too.
Yes, the logo is easily customized. (If I can do it, anyone can.) I love the sidebar addition! What is the best way to go about converting from Manji v1.03 to Manji v2?
why khaled why? the manji theme was perfect without the side column! this, for me anyway, make the thing look hideous - it's very ugly to say the least. It takes so much away from the original simplicity.
In case I do use it....ahem...how to switch the menu from left to right?
I have 2 questions.
1. Can you tell me the use of archive.php and archives.php ?
2. I seem to have a problem with include header.php and footer.php
I had to rename it to ManjiHeader.php and include that and then it works.
i think if i just say, header.php, it tries to include the one from the default theme. I am not sure if anyone else faces the problem...(I use my own theme as the default while I use the theme switcher to use Manji2)
I'll take it from the top:
XeroCool: What exactly are you talking about? Not that I really care, just want to understand what you mean by 'logo'.
pezastic + Jinsan: Manji is something different to MANJI2. It's not V2. Manji will always remain single column. Manji2 on the other hand is 2 columns. So if you want to go from one to the other you can by switching themes.
Sadish: I really don't think this is a Manji issue. In wp1.5 naming of the files in a certain way get acknowledged in a certain way.
And on a positive note:
Thank you for making Manji2 available Khaled. your hard work is much appreciated.
I will be having a 'play' with it as soon as time permits :)
The blue logo....the blue logo image. I can't customize it cause I dont have photoshop and suck at it any ways.
If you would like to email me Xerocool, I will give you a hand with a header.
Nice work Khaled! I'll be sticking with my original beta release of Manji for now but might give it a shot in the future. I hope this means more Manji for those who are in love with the sidebar. The more Manji the merrier!
XeroCool, that header image is only meant to be there, so that out the box it doesn't look boring. You're meant to customise your masthead with whatever it is you want. If you don't have Photoshop there literally is a plethora of packages that will do the job for you, such as Gimp, Expression, and the list honestly goes on and on.
TINALS hey I'm not planning on moving to a two column structure any time soon. I only released that because I felt it was something people were more comfortable with, and it was something loads of people kept asking about. I might as well make sure I do it right rather than half assed, so I waited till I had a little bit of time.
I think I'm going to calm down on the Manji development slightly. It's been a crazy January, so it's ok to calm down for a few weeks before I look at the code again, and anyway I've got Shuttle to take care of, which reminds me I should write a post about that.
XeroCool said "I can't customize it cause I dont have photoshop and suck at it any ways."
Photoshop is not the only program in the world to create or edit images with. Macromedia Fireworks, Paint Shop Pro are two other examples, and they are MUCH less expensive. There is an open source image program, called The GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) which is both easy to install and easy to learn.
You can't knock a theme simply because of it's header - but I guess part of it was tongue in cheek, having said that the comment is always about the header. Don't like it? Remove it. Pretty simple. It's bland, it's dull, but you don't HAVE to keep it.
Khaled I hear what you're saying, so sorry if I sounded disappointed, but it still feels like Manji with a column that shouldn't be there:) It's like some guy with no arms, and then he comes in with two arms and you wonder how he grew them...or something
I like it generally, my only few downers are that imo the sidebar doest fit that comfortably with the rest of the theme and I dont personally like a search button at the bottom of the page (power to the user). Oh, and I reckon the up arrow at the bottom should be half the size it currently is.
btw, I put it on my localhost test site for my Mallow theme, switched to Manji2 and all my highlight divs were highlighted in Manji2 also .. cool :-D
oh hang on :-/ works with my personal theme but not Mallow (I lied, Id put it on my own theme site first) this is because mallow uses class and my personal one uses id.
you might like to see why I chose class for Mallow here - http://www.somefoolwitha.com/2005/01/05/mallow-version-112/
Basically its because class validates
Err, OK, ONE more thing. Sorry.
Id just suggest tweaking the CSS for the h1, h2, h3 and h4 tags, they just need a bt of tidying
...hoping Im being helpful
