Manage Sender Domain

    Hi,
    I am trying to set this up according to your article here and haven’t had any luck so far. It really doesn’t seem to address my particular situation, so I’m a little lost.

    Our main domain is friscorodandgun.com and is hosted on GoDaddy. Our WordPress blog is a subdomain and is hosted on Bluehost servers. fishingreport.friscorodandgun.com I believe I have tried duplicating the records to both hosts, and to each host singularly, but I’m not positive I’ve tried every variation according the the article I referenced where you might have to strip the domain from some of the records. Or than I have given enough time between each try for the records to propagate fully.

    I’m hoping you might shed some light on what the exact procedure would be in my particular case so I could troubleshoot from there.

    Bingo!

    I finally touched on the right combination.

    Just added the records to the main GoDaddy domain only and had to strip the domain name from all 3 records.

    mailpoet1._domainkey vs mailpoet1._domainkey.friscorodandgun.com
    mailpoet2._domainkey vs mailpoet2._domainkey.friscorodandgun.com
    _mailpoet vs _mailpoet.friscorodandgun.com

    Maybe this will help someone in the future.

    Hi there, @frgtech.

    For future reference, as your host is GoDaddy the solution you found is the right one.

    Some DNS providers may create DNS records with a duplicate domain name so you need to strip your domain from the records indeed.

    Thanks for the reply.

    When I read the article I linked above (item #4), I got the impression that GoDaddy would rewrite the records I edited to duplicate the domain name. When I checked the zone records on GoDaddy and saw it still showed an unduplicated domain name I thought it was OK. I didn’t realize it could show one thing in the zone records but report something else when checked with a DKIM and SPF checking tool.

    If this is true, you might consider writing item #4 a bit differently to draw attention that it has to be checked with a tool to determine if it’s being doubled.

    Double check the DNS record name. Some DNS providers (including GoDaddy) may create DNS records with a duplicate the domain name, causing “mailpoet1._domainkey.example.com” record to be incorrectly created as “mailpoet1._domainkey.example.com.example.com”.


    To confirm this is what’s happening, you can use the online tool https://www.mail-tester.com/spf-dkim-check

    If this occurred in your case, try removing the domain name from the record’s name, leaving it as ” mailpoet1._domainkey”, “mailpoet2._domainkey” and “_mailpoet”.
