• I am trying to edit roles. I want to keep every part of the default Word Press author role, with the exception of granting permission to embed videos. As of now, it seems that any user role (like contributor and editor) that can embed videos into their post also gets enormous powers to edit other users posts. I want to micromanage the author role so that they too can embed videos but not extend their freedom to editing others posts. Is this possible? Thank you for your consideration!

  • Have you had a chance to try a search on the plugins page yet?

The plugins page is the first place that I went. I installed Capability Manager to micromanage the roles, but I can’t figure out how to get it to allow users to embed videos but not edit posts by other users. I posted a plea for help in the plugin forum, but nobody’s responded. Thus I’m trying to make my catch with a bigger net here. Perhaps I need a different plugin that I’m not familiar with. That brings me up to my post in this troubleshooting how-to forum. Do you have any concrete suggestions?

Take a look at this one and see if it is something you might like to try. You can pretty much change any capability for any role (except admin), including creating your own roles.

The capability for posting video might actually be included in the unfiltered_html permissions. Read that one over carefully, those permission could have negative effects of they aren’t left in trusted users hands. Here is a good reference if you haven’t already seen it.
