Manage Excludes Pane isn't working

When I click on “Excludes” in the Manage Backups window from the Tools menu, the Manage Excludes pane is slow to open (5 seconds), there is no cancel button at the bottom and the “Close” button, although visually reactive, does not close the pane – I have to just abort and choose Visit Site, for example.
I am using Mac OS X 10.6.8, Safari Version 5.1.10 (6534.59.10) on a MacBook Pro 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.
All other functions seem OK – I have done a scheduled backup and a “Run Now” backup both of which showed up in the wp-contents directory.
