Support » Localhost Installs » MAMP local installation – server problems

  • I have been following the instructions to install and run wordpress locally on my mac. I have been following the instructions in the codex:

Everything was going fine until I reached step 4 in the instructions. I input the local host address in Chrome and all Chrome would do was do a google search for localhost:port/wordpress. Not what I was expecting.

I ended up going back to the preferences in MAMP and reset the MAMP ports. Probably not a good idea, cos since then I have not been able to get the Apache Server to start. The MySQL Server has a green light, but Apache stays red. I have restarted the computer, but am at a bit of a loss as to how to get the server to start.

One thing I noticed that may have caused the initial problem with Chrome was that the name of the local folder was spelt differently from the address I input in the browser. Folder was WordPress, I had put wordpress into the browser. I have since re-named the folder “wordpress”.

However as I can’t get the Apache server up and running, renaming the folder doesnt really help.

Any advice would be most appreciated.
