Support » Plugin: Category Posts Widget » Malfunctions after updating 4.9.1

  • I updated locally (the test site on my computer) version 4.9.1 of “Category Posts Widget” as a precaution to check if there were any problems.
    There have been malfunctions.
In the dialog box “filter” >”start width post” the parameter always takes the value 1 even if another value is entered.
The words “read more…” are no longer displayed at the end of the extract.
I was therefore unable to update my online site and I stayed with version 4.8.5 which works very well.
Excuse my bad English, I’m French.

  • Congratulations on your responsiveness. The problem is solved.
I just updated “Category Posts Widget” with version 4.9.2: the parameter “start with post” is taken into account.

I pointed out in my previous post that the words “read more…” are no longer displayed at the end of the excerpt. I understood that in version 4.8.5 the display parameter “length (words)” was not taken into account and the extract was always displayed in its entirety.
With version 4.9.2, this parameter is taken into account and “read more…” is displayed only if the excerpt is truncated.

A big thank you for this beautiful plugin.

Interesting question about the “read more …” option.

We guess the hellip is the default value and words come later as standard default value by many websites.
If the user thinks there is a button to get to the full post it should always there, that’s what you write.

We want to get rid of that filter hooks and do it with CSS which will come for all cross-browsers next month and the attribute is called “line-clamp”.
It will be responsive and cut the excerpt text after a number of lines. All links and buttons haven’t been depending on the post text length.

You can use that CSS line cut attribute “line-clamp” with the current 4.9.2 with the option “lines (responsive)” and for FireFox we write a polyfill which can installed with the Excerpt Extension.
