    My posts and comments are all contained in the database.
    Is it possible to export these, or otherwise make these appear as static standalone html pages?

  • You can only export them in a form that can be used in another WordPress site. See Tools->Export

    Aha! A little bit of research has thrown up a plugin called WP Super Cache.
    It does exactly what I want it to do, serves up my pages in static html.

    That plugin doesn’t export your pages – which is what you asked about.
