making pages private

I have a page that I would like to keep “protected”. I put the password in, and it worked the first time as in when I logged into the blog and clicked on the page it said it was protected and to put the password in. It no longer does that, the page comes up, although the word protected is in the heading, it is not protected. Any solution, or is there something I am doing wrong.
