Support » Fixing WordPress » Making a single post appear under the posts list page

  • In my installation, I have set up a page which lists all the posts.

This page has the following URL:

However, this page also has a French sister with the following URL:

At first, I had a custom permalink structure of /home/news/%postname%/ but when I added a new language (French) my French posts also appear under that structure. However, I want my French posts to have the same structure as the French page, which is /accueil/nouvelles/%postname%/.

My question: Is there a way to make a multilingual permalink structure or rewrite so that the URL appears like I’d like it to?

  • I’m not sure if this is what you’re asking for, but I would keep a permalink structure of %postname%

And adjust the language of “news” or “nouvelles” by creating those as post categories.

It actually seems like you would have to post each post twice, once in English and once in French. How are you translating the posts?

I’m using WPML to translate every posts/pages/custom post types on my website.

However, selecting the post categories is a no-no for me as it’s way too many steps for my client. In fact, I deactivated these since I use the posts as “news” and have no need for categories.

Also, a %postname% permalink is bad because if can interfere with my pages (even if chances are low). I’d prefer to have them under a specific permalink structure.

If it is not possible, I guess I’ll just go ahead with the /%year%/%month%/%postname%/ structure, but I’d prefer not.

This is the first site I build using WordPress, and my other CMS could have URLs like these, so that’s why I would be a bit sad if I can’t get it to work.
