Support » Plugins and Hacks » Making a plugin a part of the theme’s functions.php file

  • Resolved Ryan Fitzer

Is there a way to take a plugin and instead of droping it in your plugins folder, turn it into a file that resides in your theme’s folder (like functions.php)? I’m trying to make certain functions part of the template I’m developing so it’s one nice little package. I realize that this could screw things up for the theme in future WP upgrades but I’m not worried about that at the moment.

  • Wow! That was easy. Just for the hell of it I renamed it to functions.php and stuck it in my theme’s folder. Then I deleted the plugin in my plugins folder, and it worked. Is there something in WP that tells it to look for unknown functions in the plugins folder and if they aren’t found, look for a functions.php folder in the theme’s folder?
