  • NextCellent should work fine with WP 4.4 🙂

About the srcset option, we will investigate if this is possible, but I don’t know if we will implement it, mainly due to 2 reasons:

    • NextCellent currently generates a thumbnail for each image according to the size set in the settings. Implementing this would mean we would have to generate multiple thumbnails (different sizes) for each image (which is how WordPress works).
    • Most usage of NextCellent does not use responsive images; the images are a fixed size. Without responsive images, the srcset attribute has no benefit.

The main point is the first one. This would require a large change in how NextCellent works. This might not be what our users want. If we would implement this, we would probably have to have a setting to disable/enable it, but that will take a lot of time and effort. I’m not saying we won’t do it, but our time is limited, and I don’t know if this is a big priority right now.

Thanks for your answer, niknetniko. I quite appreciate that implementing the new “srcset” feature in NextCellen Gallery would mean important changes in that plugin.

I expect that over time most WP Gallery plugins will use this feature, given the increasing usage of mobile devices for which smaller images are beneficial. And I agree that this feature should have an ENABLE/DISABLE setting.

    I’ll stay tuned!

    I vote also for that!
