Make having numeric date in permalink optional

  • Hi,

Anyone know if there’s a way to make the numeric date in the permalink optional? That is, it’ll take you to the right place whether you include try “/post-title/” or the whole “/2006/08/11/post-title/” URL.

At the moment it seems to take me to a 404 if I try just the post title, but I’d really like the ability to make the title the only required part.

Hope somebody can help, and much thanks in advance! 🙂

  • Just change your permalink format to “/archives/%postname%/” and the date won’t be necessary any more. Your posts will then be at example.com/archives/post-title/. Just be sure you never make two posts with the same name.
