Could the WordPress embed short code output be made either
. responsive so that they can be read on a mobile or
. narrower so they can be read on a mobile in landscape orientation.

The embeds are so easy to use and look fantastic on a wide screen or a tablet. HOWEVER on a mobile it they are:
. truncated a little on the right of the screen, when viewed in landscape
. truncated a lot when viewed in portrait

Here is a rave on how much I have come to rely on embeds and explains my disappointment when I realised that they do not work on mobiles.

I have been using lots of embed short codes on my site to present one post from my site in another post from my site.

This is particularly so in our newsletter
    http://bze.org.au/newsletter-december-2016/

But now we are concerned that the embeds are not readable on mobiles.

For our newsletter, we have used:
. one post for the newsletter
. separate posts, each with a featured image, for substantial articles in the newsletter “article posts”
. In the newsletter post we use an embed for each “article post”

Our newsletter used to be a separate emailed entity. Now, having the newsletter built into the web site:
. gives the website monthly life, and
. encourages regular tending of the website, like updating the post describing a recent event so the post can be used in the newsletter..

Using embeds encourages modularisation of the web site as one post about say the CEO or about a program run by the organization, can easily be reused many times. This encourages:
. this one post to be well written
. avoids duplication of information in the website
. reduces the chances of contradictory descriptions

I hope that the embed can be made suitable to the small screens of mobile phones.

  • Hi,

Are you using a plugin to provide embed functionality, as I think WordPress doesn’t provide this out of the box? If you are using a plugin I’d suggest directing this question at the plugin author.

    Cheers

try to add some CSS, possibly via the ‘customize – additional CSS’ feature of the admin bar or the ‘appearance’ section:

    .wp-embedded-content { max-width: 100%; }
