Support » How-To and Troubleshooting » Make clickable to author page link

I understand that:
<?php the_author() ?>
shows the author’s name.
I’d like to make this name linked to the author’s page, or even better to author profile.
I mean that if I click on author’s name I will go to author’s profile. (BTW I’ve read that profile information are publicly available but where?)
This is also necessary to permit Google to show my thumbsnail image besides my article.
I think what you’re probably looking for is the_author_posts_link().
So in your example:
<a href="<?php the_author_posts_link(); ?>"><?php the_author(); ?></a>
Also, not sure what theme you’re using, but author profiles don’t exist by default, you’d need to create an author.php, which your theme may already have.
This codex page explains it: http://codex.wordpress.org/Author_Templates
