After updating to version 3.4.3, we’ve experienced a major slow down when visiting Products in the WP dashboard – leading to a 20-30 second load time.

After significant troubleshooting, we’ve rolled back to 3.4.2 to resolve this.

Please let me know if you have any thoughts about why this might have occurred and a possible fix?

Hi, thank you for the feedback.
It is related to recent updates for more correctly sorting several levels deep.

Question, is the frontend of product categories still okay for you?
If it is, I could disable this recent update on the dashboard, but keep it on the frontend. Or maybe it needs to go alltogether.

I don’t use WooCommerce myself and don’t have thousands of categories either, so I am depending on feedback with this.

    You’re welcome Marcel,

It is mostly slow in the backend, but noticeably a little slow in the front end. This is a WooCommerce store with almost 3,000 products and many, many categories. However, we’re only manually sorting about 15 top-level ‘parent’ categories.

But the previous version was working great.

    Look forward to a solution.

    Aha, frontend is affected too.
Can you tell how many product categories there are?

There were changes to have better sorting on multiple levels deep, but with many terms it is getting quite expensive in CPU usage. In the most recent update that was limited to 700 terms, with more it uses the old behaviour as in 3.4.0, but with less it is using more expensive calculations. Just wondering on which side of the divide you are 🙂

This shop has over 4000 categories, because it is a legacy of an older database-style set up. I can safely say, it’s probably not your fault this has occurred. Don’t stress too much, we’ve found a work out for the time being.

    Strange, I don’t understand then.
The new code only runs with less than 700 categories. With 4000 categories there should not be much dfifference. Could it be you are talking about maybe 3.4.1 or 3.4.2?
