# Maintenance Mode Lockout

 * I enabled maintenance mode then my browser crashed and now I am locked out of
   my site. The website is showing the maintenance mode lockout page. Restoring 
   the .htaccess file does not fix the problem. I cannot access wp-admin so I am
   completely lost.
 * I did look in the source code for the webpage and found this:

 * Hi Ryan,
    In addition to the maintenance visitor lockout feature, have you also
   enabled the brute force prevention feature too? If so, to get to your admin page
   you will need to use the secret word in the url, eg, [http://yoursite.com/?yoursecretword=1](http://yoursite.com/?yoursecretword=1)

 * What exactly happened when you say it crashed?
    Also when you try to access your
   login page what do you see?
 * Have you also tried another browser and if so do you see the same issue?

 * Brute force protection was not enabled.
 * The browser froze then simply crashed, google chrome. I had to re-launch the 
   browser.
 * I tried another browser and had the same results, I can’t access the login. All
   I can get is the maintenance mode screen saying the site is unavailable.
