Main Subdomains setup: content already on main.

  • Here’s what I’m looking at.

http://www.domain.com – wordpress installation is here.

    I want to create:

    en.domain.com – subdomain for English
    cn.domain.com – subdomain for Chinese

It’s already installed at www. I have a LOT of content there, but I’d like to get that onto EN, and turn www into a landing page for languge choice. When that’s done, I can work on CN.

    So… how possible is this?

subdomains are folders past the main on my server. i.e. it’ll be public_html/en & public_html/cn. It was easier on my old servers when they were completely separate. Or maybe it isn’t. Haven’t tried this way yet.

  • If you’d like to use multisite then you shouldn’t be using public_html/en & public_html/cn. Multisite needs all the subdomains to be pointed to the same location as the WordPress installation — probably /public_html.

It should be pretty straightforward to export the content of http://www.domain.com and import to en.domain.com. Have you read through http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress?

Sorry, just getting back to this now, and thanks, Patrick. I’ll see what I can do with this. Time suddenly became scarce, so it may be awhile before I can implement this.
