I’m using the WP 2013 theme. Suddenly the sidebar (2ndary widget area) has moved from the right side of the screen to the left, lost it’s border and overlies the content of the posts. I had been changing the colour of the “quotes” text in section 5 of the HTML but can’t imagine what part of the stylesheet I could’ve accidentally changed to make this happen.

I’m new to all this and populating this website to help a friend, another friend of theirs set it up.

    The site is

I’ve saved a back up copy of the original stylesheet in a word document but would lose all the succesful changes etc I’ve made to date. Any ideas where I can find the code to correct just that error?

Do not edit the theme itself. First create a child theme for your changes. Or install a custom CSS plugin. Re-upload a fresh, unpacked, copy of the theme’s folder to wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

Thanks very much for taking the time to reply. In the end, without an immediate reply, I was worrying so much I DID just re paste the original code back onto the site which cured the layout problems and since have worked my way through the 2 codes (the corrupted and original) and transferred the changes I KNEW were safe… Very time consuming but I couldn’t leave the site as it was.

I’m not sure I fully understood all of your post, although it sounds very thorough, so I will work my way through translating it in order to make secure changes next time! Thanks again for your support, really glad to know there are people who will help strangers out.
