Main page with a variable (time based) post count?

    I would like the main page of my blog to show a variable number of main page posts based on time, with a minimum to show as a default. So I could set a minimum of 5 posts, but if I post 10 times in one week the main page would show 10, and then dynamically reduce to 5 if there are no additional posts. Anyone know of a way to do this?
