• Hello!

    I’m a Brand New User to MailPoet. It appears to be the MOST recommended solution to eMail Marketing on WordPress. I am using InMotion as my hosting service, which for most things works great, and Tech Support is usually VERY helpful. But after a week of one of their programmers trying to get MailPoet working consistently, they’re not doing so well. They did say their cURL limits can NOT be adjusted, which I found strange, but I am no Expert on Server Management.

    So I’ve loaded MailPoet up, set up forms, approved my email address, etc. I created my first simple forms. And started testing.

    Sometimes MailPoet seems to work Perfectly, other times NOT so well. And diagnosing the problem is elusive. It is very inconsistent as to where / how it breaks down.

    Sometimes the Sign Up Form does work, other times it does not. — But sometimes it does not complete the data transfer and gets stuck, but sometimes retains the User’s Details and it sometimes takes 3, 4, or 5 presses of *Subscribe* to get the User Info to go through, when it DOES work, which is not always. — Sometimes, tho, when the Form works, the User Info does NOT show up in the Subscriber list, sometimes it DOES. — Sometimes I get the Form to work, details show up in Subscriber list, but Confirmation email does not go through to the Subscriber. — Pretty much every step of the way, all the way through to final step, it sometimes works, sometimes not. … I think you get the idea.

    The only consistent thing is the URL under the Task Scheduler is ALWAYS this: https://davidscottlynn.com?mailpoet_router&endpoint=cron_daemon&action=ping … and when clicked it goes to “pong”, yet it occasionally goes INSTEAD to “cURL error 28 …” instead of “pong”.

    Of the two horizontal bars below the Task Scheduler line, the bottom one is always green / “Connection successful”, but the top one goes back and forth from green and “Connection successful” to red and “Connection failed” w/ the cURL error 28 message.

    These two are Consistently:
    Under “Cron” we get “Last seen error … none”
    Under Sending Queue we get “Error …. none”

    Under “Subscribers” menu, when the Name DOES show up (tho inconsistent) the “Statistics” button results are not very consistent, that I can discern. However the Subscriber panel sometimes leaps from nothing all the way to Subscribed WITHOUT the Confirmation message being sent to User’s email!?!?

    Under Settings>Advanced>Newsletter task scheduler (cron) … I have it set to “Server side cron (Linux cron)” and installed the details on my Hosting Server at InMotion, with it set to every second, as per your support docs recommendation. The programmer I mentioned said he tried adjusting the delay a little lower frequency, but to be honest, I’ve lost track of what they have or have not done.

    At one point I thought WordFence was interfering, but Deactivating WordFence helped for a few cycles, but THEN, it did NOT help consistently. (My hopes sure went up during THAT testing cycle! But it was not to last.)

    I have discussed with InMotion Tech Support whether I need to upgrade my Hosting Plan, or do I need to switch my Hosting Service all together?

    So I’m wondering 1.) does anyone have experience with InMotion, which for ME, has been GREAT with Everything Else, for about 5 or 6 years now. I’ve got a LOT set up there, with several websites and many email addresses. 2.) After HOURS of reading and attempting to apply what I’ve learned from MailPoet Support Docs (and I’m usually pretty good at following directions), I’m wondering how I should proceed?

    I would hate to have to stop using MailPoet, as it seems to be the best for what I am doing. So if changing Hosting companies is the solution, I would ALSO hate to leave InMotion Hosting too. — Between Rock & Hard Place???

    OKAY, I hope that was sufficient detail to paint the picture of what I’m dealing with.

    Thank You Very Much!
    David Scott Lynn

    Hi David @dslyoga,

    Thank you for sharing details about the issue you’re facing.

    I believe the inconsistency you mentioned in the plugin and the error “cURL error 28” are directly related. Depending on your host’s settings and performance, it could be that the website is timing out when processing too many requests, interrupting these processes.

    I’m not aware of any incompatibilities with InMotion Hosting, and I’d assume you don’t need to adjust cURL limits, but you can ask their support team to:

    • Make sure your server is running a recent version of PHP and the cURL library;
    • Try to increase your Server Memory Limits settings;
    • Ask your host if there is some limitation with wp-cron, or if loopback is disabled.

    If you have already done these steps, please let us know.

    Thank You Very Much, Bruna! Very Sorry I’ve been distracted by a big legal issue I had to write a big document for. But I’m back! … I had a programmer at InMotion working on this MailPoet issue, and he said he tried everything he could think of. Yet I’ll send him the list you sent and see if he’s accounted for those. I do think I saw that list in your support docs and asked about those things, but some of it was over my head! Thank You Again, Bruna!
