After working properly for some time, last week, MailPoet started sending every newsletter twice. I read responses to other posts of the same nature where cron jobs were the noted culprit, manually added the cron job per MP instructions, and for two days, newsletters were sent properly.

Then this morning’s newsletter was sent twice. Nothing has changed — no plugin updates or adds, no WP update, no other Control Panel updates.

  • Hi,

Typically this error is caused by having two cron jobs set up too close to each other. Do you have more than one?

Can you post the details of the cron job here, so we can take a look?

    Thanks!

Thanks for responding, MailPoet! We only have two cron jobs on this site …

    49	2	*	*	*
    /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/bin/perl /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/quickinstall/scripts/checkupdates.pl

    0	7	*	*	*	http://DomainNameHere.com/wp-cron.php?LongNumberCopiedFromMailPoetHere&action=wysija_cron&process=all

After two days of sending each newsletter twice and no response here, I deleted the cron job and re-created it it to every hour:

    49	2	*	*	*	/usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/bin/perl /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/quickinstall/scripts/checkupdates.pl	Edit Delete
    0	*	*	*	*	http://mydomain.com/wp-cron.php?mybiglongnumber&action=wysija_cron&process=all	Edit Delete

Then Friday and today, it didn’t send at all. I re-created the cron job AGAIN, set for every hour, and set a test to send at 2 p.m. It’s now 3:30 p.m. and the plugin says it should send “in the next few minutes.” It’s been like that since 2 p.m.

I’ve tripled checked my settings, re-saved my settings, and test emails and “send immediately” newsletters go through just fine.

    Any suggestions?

And now I have also checked with my host who claims there is nothing on their end which would cause this problem.

Tests at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m just sitting there with “in the next few minutes” message.

    Hi,

Can you remove the cron job, follow this guide, and set it to every 15 minutes?

    https://support.mailpoet.com/knowledgebase/configure-cron-job/

    Thanks!

After this much trouble, how many users do you honestly think DIDN’T read that guide, @mailpoet?

I’ve tried everything I know to try, including adding and deleting cron jobs with various settings (yes, 15 minutes was one of them), read your support articles and every WP post I can find, tested by duplicating both previously successfully sent and previously unsuccessfully sent newsletters, as well as newly created newsletters, and set and reset and checked and rechecked plugin settings. Newsletters only send after they get hung up at “in the next few minutes” AND I push them manually.

Does anything in the plugin force newsletters to hit MailPoet servers on their way out, for some reason? Because my host swears it’s not them and nothing on this site plugin/update wise has changed. Any other ideas besides “keep recreating your cron job”?

I’m at a loss and frustrated to the point of finding a new plugin, lest I set my alarm for 5 a.m. every day to send the thing out manually for this client.
